Any organization once it's reached a certain size has to have an HR department. Human resources helps manage who is hired and fired, who is promoted, who does what job, who has completed what training, and it generally manages personnel for the greatest effectiveness. And when you have an organization the size of the army, it would be impossible to handle the sheer amount of responsibilities without army human resources.

From Recruitment to Retirement

Army human resources literally handles you from the moment you fill out your paperwork. Human resources decides whether or not you're officially accepted into the army. It reviews your status once you finish training, takes care of your experience and pay grade, handles your promotions and ensures that everyone is in his or her proper place. Human resources is, without exaggerating, the backbone of the entire army command structure.

Giving Shape to the Machine

Human resources in the army is what gives that branch of the armed forces the shape that is has. Without HR to manage how many people were recruited, who gets promoted, who gets fired and who is given what training, order would break down very quickly indeed. Because the army runs on its paperwork, it needs to have people that can fill out the proper forms and keep the computer system updated. Human resources is the nervous system that sends messages all throughout the army, ensuring that everyone is put where they can do the most good for the army as a whole.

Technology and Human Resources

As technology shoots ahead, the army is always one of the first to adopt and adapt it to its needs. The human resources department is no different than the soldiers out in the field who were the first to be given GPS technology and other, useful advances. Whether it's simple email or new software designed to make regrouping and record keeping easier, human resources is first to jump on it. Cloud computing, for instance, has altered the way the army keeps its records, and thus how its human resources departments function. The more efficient human resources can be, and the faster all of its forms and files can be changed and updated, the more quickly that changes can be made among army personnel.
